At the forefront of what’s known as the post-hardcore, or metalcore, scene stands We Came As Romans (WCAR). Their shows are electric, their lyrics are passionate, and their performances are kick-ass—there really is no better way to describe them.
Hailing from Troy, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, the band formed in 2005 and originally called themselves This Emergency, changing their name in 2006 to WCAR. They released their first EP in 2009 and welcomed current vocalist, Kyle Pavone, to the band.
Flash forward almost 10 years and WCAR has released four studio albums, touring the world with such bands as Iron Maiden, Asking Alexandria, Black Sabbath, and The Used. They also earned Billboard plaques for No. 1 Hard Rock Album, and No. 8 Top 200 album, to name a few.
It’s safe to say they aren’t slowing down either, with a new album, Cold Like War, coming out October 20 and a lengthy tour with 50 stops (see below). Earlier this summer, Pavone tweeted to fans that the new record is going to be fast and heavy, and that “it will be the perfect We Came As Romans record.”
“Cold Like War is about struggle, those trials,” says guitarist and songwriter Joshua Moore. “They can turn us towards each other, towards those we love, towards those who have supported us. Because the last two years to us have felt like this giant war—an internal war—to figure out the right path for our band… to figure out how to stay together and be happy again.”
