Style, convenience and luxury are all part of one of New York City’s hippest boutique hotels: The Refinery. This “industrial chic” hotel opened in 2013 in Manhattan’s Garment District. Ask anyone who has checked into this hotel what the biggest perks of booking room here are, and you’ll likely hear them gab about how great the location is, how large the rooms are or the first-class service you’ll get from the staff.
When designing The Refinery, interior design firm Stonehill & Taylor chose to give props to the building’s fashion-leaning past while designing a chic, modern luxury hotel. The Refinery is comprised of 197 fashion-forward guest rooms, a Prohibition-style tea lounge and a swanky rooftop bar that offers unrivaled views of the Empire State Building. The building was built in the 1920s and up until the 1980s housed a hat factory. Taking cues from the Prohibition era, The Refinery is home to Winnie’s Jazz Bar, which features refined cocktails and an extensive wine and beer selection. Cocktails and traditional American dishes are served up in the hotel’s glam dining space, Parker & Quinn. The hotel also pays homage to its building’s past with the Hatbox, a 700-square-foot event space that hosts a variety of art exhibitions, foodie events, fashion shows and more.
We asked Eric Foley, general manager of The Refinery, the questions that will help upgrade your next trip to New York City.
Cigars & Leisure: What’s the most affordable and convenient way to get from JFK or LaGuardia to Manhattan?
Eric Foley: The AirTrain is the easiest and most economical way to get from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Manhattan. The AirTrain is conveniently located inside the airport, and only costs $5.00 to get to Howard Beach Station, where you can catch the A Train directly into the city, which stops within walking distance to Refinery Hotel. It cost $2.75, making your trip cost a total of $7.75. The best part is, there’s no traffic when taking the AirTrain!
