There’s not much we at Cigars & Leisure can do to accelerate spring’s arrival, but we can make some suggestions about how to get in the spring frame of mind. Gin-based drinks are a great way to transition into warm-weather cocktails, and Hendrick’s Gin, with its cucumber essence, is an especially great beacon of the warm weather and good times to come. Muddle and mix up a basil smash, and start preparing yourself for spring.
Hendrick’s Gin Basil Smash (an original recipe from Hendrick’s Gin)
- 2 parts Hendrick’s Gin
- 1 part fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 part simple syrup
- 8 clean, fresh basil leaves
Put the basil leaves in the palm of your hand and clap gently (some bartenders thinks this helps release herbs’ aromas). Then put the basil leaves at the bottom of a shaker and gently muddle. Add the Hendrick’s gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and ice. Shake hard and serve in either a chilled champagne coupe, up, or a chilled old-fashioned glass, on the rocks.
