The London nightlife scene is both iconic and diverse. There are so many locations and superb venues for an amazing experience within the city, no matter what your preference may be. When choosing your nightlife destination, you need to decide what kind of experience you are hoping for, and you must do some homework on the different options out there. Here are just a few venues to consider for your night out in the city.
If you’re in central London and looking for a trendy nightclub, then you must make sure you visit the exclusive VIP clubs that have become ever so popular, where you are sure to spot a celebrity or two. The hottest clubs right now are Boujis Project, Cuckoo, Cirque le Soir, Whisky Mist, and Mahiki, to name a few. The majority of these places are “member only” clubs, so be sure to check before you wait in line. Should you choose to frequent one of these exclusive clubs, also be sure to take plenty of money—as your bar tab could be a little pricey—and dress to impress for the waiting paparazzi!
If celebrity hangouts aren’t your bag and you’re looking for more of a nightclub scene filled with up-to-the-minute music and all-night dancing, then the best spots to find are Ministry of Sound, Egg London, KOKO, Heaven, XOYO, and Queen of Hoxton. These clubs are a must and will certainly keep you buzzing until the early hours. These venues have seen the likes of Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Paul Oakenfold, Erick Morillo, Sasha, and David Guetta—plus, a very popular and regular visitor Calvin Harris and many other DJs have graced the decks with their amazing talent and captivating tunes. The London clubs have a huge reputation for incredible music and a friendly atmosphere, in particular Egg London. This club’s huge premises in King’s Cross has three floors of diversity and is very reminiscent of the iconic island of Ibiza. It also has a chill-out garden for when you need a rest and a recharge!
There are also the very trendy bars in East London, namely in Shoreditch, that you must try to get into, even though they are members-only clubs and venues. These places are full of young, hip, and trendy folk who will make for an interesting experience. These places tend to be home to the up-and-coming singer or band member who is looking to jump-start their career. One of the best spots currently is Shoreditch House, part of the Soho House group, frequented by the likes of Graham Norton, Alesha Dixon and the Sugababes. It also has a pool on the roof, just in case you fancy a late-night swim!
Another venue in trendy Shoreditch is McQueen, named after the King of Cool himself. This is a super-chic club and lounge bar with great lighting and décor together with comfy sofas and guest DJs who keep the crowd entertained. This is certainly a must-see, but again you must be prepared for door coverages and their individual dress codes.
The other exciting option within central London is live music or theater. You can find both of these all over London in some fantastic venues. Covent Garden is home to live music and street performers. There are bars aplenty within the historic square that host new and established acts within their walls. If you’re looking for something quirky and different, this must be on your list.
If theater is your passion then Leicester Square is most certainly the place to visit. There are musicals and plays that have worldwide acclaim, including Mamma Mia, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Wicked, The Lion King, We Will Rock You, and many more.
If you love theater, then you are in for a real treat. London’s world-renowned West End is known for hosting its longest-running musical Les Misérables, with an impressive production and an experience that you will remember forever. Other spectacular venues across London include O2 Arena, Wembley Stadium, Brixton Academy, Alexandra Palace, the Roundhouse, and the Eventim Apollo.
There’s so much more of London to discover!
