The company whose motto is “time beautifully filled” isn’t done celebrating the Chinese New Year just yet. Davidoff has followed up its announcement regarding the Year of the Ox cigar with the unveiling of the Year of the Ox Masterpiece humidor.
Limited to just seven humidors available worldwide, the Year of the Ox Masterpiece humidor is a striking and elegant humidor adorned with a subtle engraved pattern and features a gold plated handle that allows for it to be opened and closed comfortably. It was created for Davidoff by luxury craft company Moves in Virieu le Grand (France). The shape of two ox horns crafted out of ox leather and inlaid by hand into the lid of the humidor is the main design feature of the Year of the Ox Masterpiece humidor. Contrasting with the red lacquer, the gold colored leather pairs well with the handle while its sturdy structure represents the strength and the determination of the Ox.
“Davidoff’s limited editions celebrating the Chinese Zodiac have become sought after collectors’ items by Chinese as much as global aficionados. Every year our passionate teams get deeply inspired by the respective zodiac and bring it to life in each facet of our highly exclusive creations. This year’s sign, the ox, is reflected in a full-bodied cigar and two spectacular Masterpieces that complement our cigar offering: a Masterpiece humidor and a Masterpiece pipe both reflecting the power and resilience of its inspiration the ox, and made entirely by hand by true artists of their craft,” says Edward Simon, chief marketing officer of Oettinger Davidoff AG.
Once opened, the humidor reveals a beautiful gold-plated ox icon. Another hidden highlight of the Year of the Ox Masterpiece humidor is a drawer lined with leather that holds a Davidoff jet flame lighter and a Davidoff double blade cutter that is engraved with the “Year of the Ox” pattern. All of the humidor’s gold parts are plated with gold 5 micro.
The Year of the Ox Masterpiece humidor also comes stocked with 88 cigars that rest on a cigar tray that is engraved with the ox symbol. In Chinese culture, 88 symbolizes fortune and good luck and the number 8 sounds similar to the word “wealth” in Mandarin and Cantonese and is considered the luckiest number in the Chinese culture. The shape of the Chinese character for 8, that starts narrow and gets wide towards the bottom, implies the a person will have a great and wide future.
In addition to the Year of the Ox cigar and Masterpiece humidor, Davidoff has also released a Year of the Ox Masterpiece pipe [read more here].
