Austin is one of hottest travel destinations in America, even in the cooler winter months. The city is filled with great food, music, and culture, and is the perfect urban escape to visit for a weekend—many have found they want to stay in Austin for good. The capital of Texas is a rapidly growing and evolving city. Since 2010, over 100,000 new residents have moved to the city.
The influx of tech company headquarters and large corporate offices has drawn educated young professionals to Austin and has allowed the city to prosper, enhancing the food, arts, and culture of the popular Texas city. The city welcomes its abundance of newcomers and visitors alike with over 250 live music venues, chic hotels, a booming contemporary art scene, and of course, barbecue. It is the perfect destination for someone who wants a city escape this winter with its mild weather and electrifying country-meets-cool vibe.
Getting there. Though just under three hours from both Houston and Dallas, you can fly directly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for the easiest arrival. The MetroAirport bus will get you from your gate to downtown Austin in under 30 minutes.
Getting around. There are plenty of Uber and Lyft options in the city. Rent a car if you want to take a drive out to any of the scenic lakes near the city, including Lake Georgetown, Quarry Lake, and Lake Buchanan.
Hotel Availability. Hotel prices are lower in December and February but surge in March when the city hosts the famous SXSW music festival and attendees stream in from all over the country. A good option during the height of hotel prices is an Airbnb selection.
